Speaker topic: Improving interaction on the Web
In the mid-1990's, javascript introduced mouse-based interactions and HTML forms gave us the ability to easily process user-generated content (although we didn't call it that at the time). CSS :focus and :hover also enabled simple interactivity.
Since then the Web has added interfaces for touch, gestures (mostly with touch or mouse, but also using devices like the Wiimote or Kinect or APIs like device orientation), and more.
But the current architecture is increasingly complex for a developer to use, and increasingly fails to meet user needs. Can we do better?
- What works today, and what goes wrong?
- Who builds what parts of the model, and who should be doing it?
- Where do we want to be, and how do we get there from here?

Speaker topic: Using ARIA to solve everyday accessibility problems
Understanding accessibility mechanics is an important part of good interface design. Find out about the relationship between your code, the browser, and assistive technologies, and how to create accessible interfaces with ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications).
ARIA can be used to make common widget design patterns more accessible - like tabs, disclosures and auto-complete. It also has a role to play in JavaScript framework accessibility, where accessibility is not included by default.
ARIA is a powerful technology, but it also has its limitations. Find out how to use it to solve accessibility problems, and when to look beyond ARIA to other solutions.
